THE COURSE AND REQUIREMENTS
 
The Course
 
An introduction to the art of the High Renaissance and Mannerist periods in Italy. Examples of painting, sculpture, and some architecture produced in Italy between approximately 1500 and 1600 will be examined.

Student Responsibilities
 
- Active class participation, which includes being prepared for each class, and taking part in discussion.
 - Two Reports (each 7-9 pages, with footnotes and bibliography) presented in class with web-based images. Each report will focus on a selected painting (or group of paintings), piece of sculpture (or group of sculptures), or work of architecture (or architectural complex). The aim is to examine issues and explore questions that reach beyond what the textbook has to offer. 
 - Final Exam

- Reports = 40% each
